Frequently Asked Questions
-
I work with a wide range of emotional and relational challenges. Some of the common themes that clients bring include anxiety, low mood, grief and loss, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and a general sense of feeling stuck or overwhelmed.
You don’t need to have a clear ‘label’ for what you’re going through in order to come to counselling. If something’s been weighing on you or taking up space in your mind, that’s more than enough reason to reach out. If you’re unsure whether I’m the right person to support you, get in touch - I’m happy to have a brief chat before booking your first session.
-
I work with clients of any age from 12 upwards.
For information specific to therapy for younger clients, please see here.

Sessions are £50 for 50 minutes, preferably paid at least 48 hours in advance.
You’re welcome to pay as you go, or in blocks of 4 or 6 sessions if that suits you better.
Your first session is offered at a reduced rate of £25.

Once I’ve received your enquiry, I’ll get back to you by email (or by text or phone call if you’ve let me know that’s your preference). I aim to respond within 48 hours Monday to Friday, unless I’m on leave.
If I feel I’m a good fit to support you, I’ll share my current availability. Once we’ve found a time that works, I’ll go ahead and book your initial session.
Ahead of our first meeting, I’ll send you a short questionnaire to help you reflect on what you’re hoping to gain from counselling and how we might work together. You’re welcome to complete this in your own time, or we can go through it together during your first session — whichever feels most comfortable for you. I’ll also send practical details like directions to the woodland meeting point or to the Sheffield Wellness Centre, depending on your chosen setting.

Your first session is offered at a reduced rate of £25, as I believe it’s important for you to get a feel for whether I’m the right therapist for you before committing more fully. This is our chance for us to get to know each other a little bit and see how it feels to work together. There’s no pressure to share everything all at once; we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you.
I’ll begin by introducing the space and explaining how the session will unfold. We’ll also go over some practicalities, such as how I hold boundaries, confidentiality, and what to expect from the overall flow of our work — this may vary slightly depending on whether we’re meeting outdoors or indoors.
We’ll spend some time talking about what’s bringing you to counselling, what you’re hoping for, and any thoughts or questions you might have. If you’ve completed the pre-session questionnaire, we may refer to it, or we can work through it together during the session.
I’ll also give you a copy of the client contract, which outlines how I work and includes key information like confidentiality and cancellation policies. You’re welcome to take it away and read it in your own time. If you decide you’d like to continue, you’ll just need to sign and return it before your next session.
There’s absolutely no pressure to commit to further sessions unless you feel confident that it’s something you’d like to do. I’m more than happy for you to go away and think about it — I only ask that you let me know within a week, so I can offer the space to someone else if you choose not to continue.
However you choose to proceed, I hope our time together offers you a moment of calm and the beginning of something healing and hopeful.

This is entirely flexible, and there’s no pressure to decide straight away. If helpful, we can explore a rough timeframe together during your initial session.
I understand that long-term therapy can be a big commitment — both emotionally and financially — and isn’t the right fit for everyone. I’m happy to work with you in a way that suits your needs, whether that’s a one-off session to gain clarity on something specific, longer-term support, or something in between.

Life happens, and I understand that sometimes plans change.
I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice are charged at the full session fee, as I’ll still need to cover costs and it’s unlikely I’ll be able to fill the slot at short notice.
If you’re unwell or something urgent comes up, please still let me know as soon as you can — I’ll always approach these situations with understanding and aim to be fair.

Yes — you can find further information about walk-and-talk counselling, including outdoor-specific FAQs, here.

Yes, I’m happy to offer flexibility if your preferences or needs change over time.
Some clients choose to work mainly outdoors but occasionally move indoors during colder months, or simply when they feel they’d benefit from a more contained space. Others begin indoors and later become curious about walk-and-talk therapy.
If you’d like to switch, we can explore options together. You may need to adjust your session time or day, as my availability differs slightly between the two formats, but I’ll always do my best to find something that works for you.
